Exclusive: Pzportal goes to Asus!
On the 30th of March 2009, I was invited by NP Computer Club to visit, the world’s largest motherboard manufacturing company, Asus head office in Singapore!
We were in for a treat when we got there.
Not only we get to play with most of Asus’s latest offerings in the market, Asus also got some of their guys to intro some of the more exclusive technology Asus incorporate in to their products. Like the Express Gate Technology where users can choose to boot quickly directly in to a linux OS should they need to do a quick checking of their IM or Email. From a troubleshooting point of view, the Express Gate provides another avenue of troubleshooting should you run into some problems with your main OS.
During our few precious hours there, we got to test drive a series of laptops/netbook Asus is most famous for; like the EEEPC S101H and 1002HA, the U6V bamboo series and their flagship gaming laptop the G50. Unfortunately, we didn’t really get to play with their high end peripherals (Mobos and GFXs) but I am sure we will be able to, the next time we visit them again!
The EEEPC has gone through major changes since it was first introduced a few years back. The size of it has become bigger with a 10″ LCD panel, a spacious keyboard which reminds you of those on Sony laptops and generous storage space. It also now sports a metalic palmrest and finishing adding a more soild feel to it as compared to its’ predecessors. Looks like Asus is bringing its’ value for money product to brand new heights! I was told by the Asus representative that we were supposed to be able to get a feel of their new tablet EEEPC the T91 but the set was unavailable for review at that moment of time.
Highlight of the whole testing session would be their flagship gaming laptop: The G50, successor of the G1 and G2 series! The test machine was loaded with the latest mobile Intel P8600 2.40Ghz CPU, maxed out with 4GB of memory, nVidia 9700m GT graphics card and Vista Ultimate! It is truly a mobile gamer’s dream. We even managed to get Crysis up and running on the machine with acceptable graphic setting!
The trip to Asus Singapore head office was a very memorable and fun experience as I have never got to play with so many laptops at one go!
Before I end, I would like to thank the guys from NP Computer Club for inviting me to their small outing. Not forgetting Asus’s representative, Michelle and her other colleagues, for being such good hosts by making sure that we were comfortable and information provided to us are as accurate as possible.
