OpenNet… Coming to a estate near you
Over this holiday period, I can’t help but to notice that there is a huge cable replacement project going on. Rolls and rolls of cables were placed beside manholes and workers after workers toiled to unroll them all.

It didn’t dawn to me that the rolls of cables were fibre optic cables until one day I visited my aunts’ house and chanced upon a fibre optics distribution box.
I suddenly remembered that a consortium of telecomms company (Called OpenNet) will be rolling out the next-generation fibre optics network (aka: Fibre to the home/FTTH) to both homes and businesses within the next 3 years covering most, if not the whole of Singapore!
One estate in Singapore has already been fitted with the connection points and were offered the opportunities to test drive the new fibre optics internet connection! (Some lucky Hardwarezone user manage to get his hands on it and posted some insanely speed using speedtest. Now I couldn’t find the thread. Damn it!)
This is certainly a very exciting development for the network landscape of Singapore and I cant wait to see what profound impact it will have on our everyday lives.
